In the final analysis, the last line of defense in support of freedom and the Constitution consists of the people themselves. If the people want to be free, if they want to lift themselves out from underneath a state apparatus that threatens their liberties, squanders their resources on needless wars, destroys the value of their dollar, and spews forth endless propaganda about how indispensable it is and how lost we would all be without it, there is no force that can stop them. The time has come to act on these words. May future generations look back on our work and say that these were men and women who, in a moment of great crisis, stood up to the politicians, the opinion-molders, and the establishment, and saved their country.

- Congressman Ron E. Paul, 2008.

Who Am I?

Dr. E. Wayne Johnson

I have resided in Urbana since 2001, the past 5 years of which has been at 1810 South Vine Street. I grew up on a small grain and livestock farm in rural Hamilton County.

I have been familiar with the Urbana-Champaign area for almost 40 years through various roles as student, researcher, instructor, and academic professional at the University of Illinois. My work since getting my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1980 and a short stint in grad school began in 1981 with seven years of general veterinary practice in Gallatin County where I started a new business servicing clients with dogs, cats, and all manner of farm animals.

For about 30 years I have worked as a consulting veterinarian and visited farms all over the US, and in Brazil, Canada, and China. I worked with the USDA-FSIS and farmer organizations to design a quality assurance program for health and safety of farm animals and farm products in the late ‘80s, and in the ‘90s developed and wrote a software program for modeling and allocation of resources which sold copies in several countries and was translated into Portuguese and Chinese.

I presently do research and development consultation in several research and production areas including the statistical analysis & modeling of growth variability and allocation of resources, and the interaction of nutriture with health and well-being. I lived and worked in China from 1996 to 2001 as an educator, researcher, and technical advisor. While at China Agricultural University in Beijing, I met my wife, Dr. Qiao Qingyan, who is a Ph.D animal nutritionist.

I returned to Urbana in February 2001 to take a position as Agricultural Veterinarian at the UIUC. After about 2 years I went back to research and consulting and also took some coursework at UIUC in mathematics, statistics, pathology, and animal behavior. Qiao and I have published scientific and popular artcles in English and Chinese, and we have inventions for which 3 patents are applied for. I enjoy reading, writing, and gardening, and spending time with our children and friends, and Qiao likes to cook authentic Chinese cuisine for us and offer sound advices to all. We have a home bible study and attend Midwest Believers Church on Philo Road. Robert, 9, and Thomas, 8, who attend M.L. King School, are studying Chinese and the piano, and are active in sports. Alice at 4 is a precocious reader and self-taught computer expert and is learning violin. Ellie at 2 is a lot of fun and makes all of us smile.
